Hello from Central Oregon! My name is Yancy and I am the owner of Five Seed. I started the business in January 2010 in order to meet the needs of customers who, like me, wanted the purest moisturizers, perfumes and cosmetics available. Organic, fair trade and sustainable – no preservatives, dyes or stabilizers. I grew up fascinated with herbal healing and aromatherapy – a passion reflected by the items in my shop.
I am also a faithful bicycle commuter. I try to bicycle to my destinations at least 80% of the time. I’ve loved riding bicycles all my life, but bicycle commuting became important to me after the BP oil spill in the Gulf. Horrified by yet another environmental disaster born of our dependence on oil, I decided to try on an alternative lifestyle – transportation powered by two feet instead of petroleum.
I have a small “fleet” of bicycles – a red mountain bike, a detatchable trailer and a blue cruiser. My gas-guzzling car has been moved out of the garage to make room for my new mode of transportation!
I started this blog as a companion to my Etsy shop, but it has grown into much more than that. Here, I talk about bicycle commuting, herbal healing, consumerism, feminism, natural beauty, green living, gardening and so much more!
Thanks for stopping by and be sure to come around again!

I was wondering if you’ve considered not using castor oil. Its extraction creates highly polluted wastewater due to the poison it contains, ricin. Here is a post with information about it:

Thank you for sharing this with me! I will definitely look into it and get back to you.
Hi SR,
Thank you for asking me about this issue. After hours of research, I’ve written a post on it here:

I will continue looking into this issue and learning as much as I can about it until I make my final decision.
Thank you!
Wow, sounds like a line of products I might be interested in!

You have some great cycling advocacy groups in the US, but all of them need people with passion and energy to regenerate them regularly. If you can don’t start a new group and burden yourself with all the hassle of a start-up, go join some like minded people.
@kevinmayne: That’s great advice! I will look into that. Thanks!
